2 Samuel 7:16 And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.
Jesus, King of Israel
This was the promise God made to David, king of Israel. This promise was to be fulfilled in Jesus Christ.
The first recognized prophesy regarding Jesus Christ is in Genesis 3:15, wherein Scripture records God's promise of judgment against the Serpent, "And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel."
The very first prophesy of Jesus Christ proclaims he will be the seed of the woman, Eve.
"And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
"And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel."
Gen. 3:14-15
What would the seed of the woman be?
"This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;
"Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.
"And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, and after his image; and called his name Seth:"
Gen. 5:1-3
The children born of Adam and Eve were "sons after the image of their father." But the promised saviour, he who would bruise Satan's head, would be the seed of the woman.
"And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,"
Luke 3:23
It was supposed that Jesus was the son of Joseph, husband of Jesus' mother Mary.
But was he?
"Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
"Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.
"But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
"And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
"Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
"Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us."
Matt. 1:18-23
In fulfillment of prophesy, the baby in Mary was conceived of the "Holy Ghost," a reference to the holy Spirit of God the Father, for God is spirit, and it is a holy Spirit.
Joseph was even going to call off the marriage plans ("espoused" here means "engaged") because Mary was pregnant (found with child) and since he had not been with her intimately (known her) it was not his.
But God sent a message: this was His holy baby. And because this baby was of God, a name he would bear was "emmanuel," "god with us."
It does not say that the baby was God with them, it said his name would be called that.
And the mother was Mary, for the baby was "the seed of the woman."
Then why was the promise of a seed through Abraham, and Jacob, and David?
"Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?"
John 7:42
"And I will bring forth a seed out of Jacob, and out of Judah an inheritor of my mountains: and mine elect shall inherit it, and my servants shall dwell there."
Is. 65:9
"Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ."
Gal. 3:16
Seed comes from the male. Somehow, the seed called the Christ, whom we know as Jesus, did come through Abraham, and Jacob, and David, but also through Mary.
The reason Jesus the Christ is called "the seed of the woman" is because he came from a mother but not an earthly father.
Some say, "well, Joseph the supposed father of Jesus was of David, who was of Jacob, who was of Abraham."
And Joseph indeed was of David's lineage.
"And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,...
"...Which was the son of Melea, which was the son of Menan, which was the son of Mattatha, which was the son of Nathan, which was the son of David,
"Which was the son of Jesse..."
Luke 3:23, 31, 32b
Joseph the son of Heli was the several times great grandchild of Nathan the son of David, son of Jesse the Bethlemite. (As the aforementioned verse states, "out of the town of Bethlehem.)
However, the man Jesus was to inherate the crown of David, which went through Solomon, not Nathan.
There is another genealogy, listed in Matthew.
"The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham."
Matthew 1:1
This section will list the royal genealogy of Jesus Christ, who inherates the heirloom legacies of both David and Abraham.
This inheritance is through direct lineage. He was not only a direct descendent of Abraham and David, "son of," but a direct descendent of every child of Abraham and David who stood in line for the inheritance.
"Supposed son" of Joseph would not have been good enough, and besides, as a descendent of Nathan son of David and not Solomon son of David, Joseph was not in line for these inheritances.
Jesus only had one literal human parent.
Mary.
Look again at the genealogy of Matthew.
"Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas and his brethren;"
Matt. 1:2
These are each the direct sons, heirs after the fathers. This line goes to David in verse 6:
"And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias; "
Matt. 1:6
Now we have a real problem. The genealogy of Joseph the supposed father of Jesus went from Nathan down through a bunch of men who could merely claim a distant past king as a common ancestor, David.
This genealogy branches off at David, but follows the line of Kings. This is the line of heir, much different from Luke chapter three.
"And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ."
Matt. 1:16
Now this section appears to be telling us that Joseph, whom Luke three says is the supposed father of Jesus, is the son of a man called Jacob and is a many times grandson of Solomon, heir to the throne.
Yet scripture is God-breathed, the Bible says, and this is an apparent contradiction.
The answer is simple.
The genealogy of Luke is the genealogy of Joseph, the supposed father of Jesus. Joseph was a humble man, perhaps not a peasant or a peon, but certainly no royal.
Matthew gives the genealogy of kings. It records the line royal of Judah.
It does not speak of commoners, but of men of position in society. Kings certainly qualify for men of position.
The word "husband" in Matthew 1:16 is the word "aner."
The word "aner" is used of a man who is chief over himself, a free man. Often the word "aner" is used of a man chief in his house in reference to a wife or the lack of one.
"For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife;"
Mark 10:7
But many times, this was not so,
"And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs. "
Luke 8:27
The man, the "aner" in Mark 10:7 was going to cling to a wife.
But the man, the "aner" in Luke 8:27 not only abode in no house, which means he probably had no wife, he did not seem to be popular marriage material.
There is absolutely no reference to husbandhood in Luke 8:27, nor in the word "aner" itself.
Therefore, rather than translating "aner" into the english word "husband," it should be translated "man," and the student of Scripture should allow the context to speak for itself.
We return to the genealogy of Matthew. Please keep in mind Matthew's lineage deals with the royal lineage. Lineage is therefore the context we must use in which to understand "aner."
"And Jacob begat Joseph the husband ("aner," "man") of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ."
Matt. 1:16, with notation.
Joseph the supposed father of Jesus, Joseph not of the royal heir lineage, was the son of Heli. Joseph the man ("aner") of Mary, mother of Jesus, was of the royal heir lineage, and was son of Jacob. Therefore we are talking of two Josephs.
Joseph was "aner," "man" of Mary regarding lineage: he was her father. Mary was in line for the throne of Israel, but as a woman, it would go to any living son.
It went to Jesus.
Through Joseph , his grandfather on his mother's side, Jesus the Christ was heir to the throne of David.
upon Jesus' death this throne would go to a son, or lacking heir, to the closest brother.
But Jesus rose from the dead. And he will nevermore lay in a grave, for Jesus "yesterday, today, and forever."
Thus it is Jesus who lays rightful claim to the throne of Israel.
And when he returns to Israel, that is how he will appear, as King and Saviour to the children of Israel. As it is written, his throne shall be established forever.

God will yet choose Israel BY Matthew McGee Many denominations hold to the view that God has forsaken the nation of Israel forever. They feel that because Israel crucified their Messiah, Jesus Christ, that God has taken away the promises He made to Israel, and has applied those promises to the present day predominantly Gentile church. However, we must not put "what we feel" above what God's Word actually says. God made unconditional promises to Abraham (originally named Abram) that were not dependent upon any action of Abraham or his descendants. In Genesis 12:3, God told Abram, "... I will bless them that bless thee, and curse them that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed." Another reason that we know that God has not forsaken Israel forever is the prominence Israel has in the end time prophecies which are yet to be fulfilled. The Old Testament is rich with prophecies of end time events. All of the prophecies and visions were given to Hebrew prophets, and most of the events take place in, or are centered around the nation of Israel. DC Medical Marijuana Initiative Will Be on November Ballot -- Unless Congress Quashes It Again In 1998, Washington, DC, voters overwhelmingly approved a medical marijuana initiative, only to have it blocked uncounted by the District's congressional overseers. But after a federal court battle led by the Marijuana Policy Project (http://www.mpp.org) resulted in the congressional amendment to the DC appropriations bill being ruled unconstitutional, MPP took to the streets this summer to gather signatures for another DC medical marijuana initiative. The group needed to gather 17,500 valid signatures by July 13 to get on the ballot. On Monday, MPP presented petitions with more than 39,000 signatures to the DC Board of Elections, almost ensuring that District voters will have another chance to vote on medical marijuana this fall. The initiative has the support of a majority of the DC city council, five members of which filed affidavits in federal court backing MPP's lawsuit against Congress. Rep. Bob Barr (R-GA), the drug war zealot and occasional libertarian who engineered the successful congressional effort to keep medical marijuana away from residents of "the last plantation," as District residents unhappy with their lack of congressional representation sometimes refer to the city. William Tyndale: Father of the English Bible The Romish Church in England had forbidden the Bible to be translated into the common tongue. The church was adamant about this and did everything in its power to enforce this rule. There is no question about it but that the reason was simply that the Bible in the hands of the common people would reveal how totally corrupt the Romish church had become. The church did not want people to know this. One cleric with whom Tyndale spoke about translating the Scriptures raged: "We had better be without God's laws than the pope's." US Set to Resume Its Role in Halting Latin Drug Planes President Bush is expected to approve the resumption of a program to force down or shoot down airplanes suspected of ferrying drugs in Latin America, a year after the program was halted by the mistaken downing of a plane carrying American missionaries in Peru, American officials say. The program's many critics had assumed that the mistaken downing of the missionaries' plane, in which two Americans were killed, would make it impossible for the White House to start it up again. AMERICAN investigators know the identity of the killer who paralysed the US by sending anthrax in the post but will not arrest the culprit, according to leading US scientists.
